Blomberg joined the Swansea Police Department in 1999. He graduated from Belleville Area College (now Southwestern Illinois College) Police Academy Session 72. Upon graduation, he was assigned to patrol, where he received numerous awards for DUI enforcement. In 2004, he completed the Basic SWAT School at the Springfield, IL Police Academy and later joined the St. Clair County Regional Special Response Team in 2010. In 2016, he graduated from the Illinois Law Enforcement and Training Board Executive Institute for Police Executive Role in the 21st Century and also attended the Executive Summit for Managing the Small Law Enforcement Agency. Blomberg was promoted to his current rank in 2007.
During his career, Blomberg served the department as a PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor and Taser Instructor. Blomberg also served on the ILEAS Mobile Field Force where he finished his assignment as a Team Leader. His current duties include Patrol Supervisor, Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Active Shooter Instructor, Law Enforcement Supply Office (LESO) Coordinator, Bike Patrol Supervisor, and Internship Director. He also currently serves as an Assistant Team Leader on the St. Clair County Regional Special Response Team.
Blomberg grew up in Belleville in the mid-1980s while his father was stationed at Scott Air Force Base. He attended Tufts University in Medford, MA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1995. Blomberg has been married since 1998 and has a son and daughter.
