On November 14, 2016, Swansea Police Officer Cheryl Venorsky was assigned to Wolf Branch and High Mount Schools as their School Resource Officer (SRO). SRO Venorsky is a resource for the children, teachers, and administrators.
The primary reason for the SRO is to bridge the gap between professional law enforcement and future citizens. The SRO enhances lines of communication, police-community partnerships, and builds trust. The SRO is not a disciplinarian, but is rather present to work with the children with everything, ranging from playing basketball, tutoring in math, being another ear to listen to children's concerns, etc.
SRO Venorsky has been a police officer with the Swansea Police Department since January 2, 1996. She grew up in Swansea and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University in Administration of Justice with a minor in Psychology. She received the honor of graduating Magna Cum Laude. She went on to earn her Master of Science degree in Administration of Justice.
SRO Venorsky previously served as a K-9 Officer and has specialized training in crime scene processing, investigations, and crisis intervention training. She is a nationally certified School Resource Officer.
