Swansea Government

The term “Village” does not relate to the size of a particular municipality. Rather, it refers to a form of government which is made up of a Board of Trustees (the legislative body) headed by the President of the Board (same as a Mayor - the executive branch of local government). An elected clerk maintains the village’s records and an elected treasurer manages its finances. The Board of Trustees is comprised of six members, each elected to a four year term. These trustees are elected “at-large”, meaning they do not represent a particular area of the Village, but represent the interests of all residents, regardless of where they live. A “city” on the other hand, is divided into wards, and aldermen are elected from each ward to represent the residents who live within that geographic area. Residents with questions or concerns may discuss those with any trustee or the President of the Board of Trustees, or simply call the Swansea Government Center at (618) 234-0044.

Swansea Today

Swansea is recognized as one of the fastest growing communities in the metro-east. A major Metrolink train station is located in Swansea. Commuters may leave their vehicles in the well-lighted parking areas and ride the air-conditioned metro trains from Scott AFB to Lambert-St. Louis International Airport with stops at many locations throughout the metro-east. Many passengers "ride the rails" to and from work each day. It's a great way to travel to and from the airport, as people may leave their vehicles at the Swansea Station for up to two weeks.
