Fire Department

The Swansea Fire Department's mission is to protect life and property from fires and disasters in the village and surrounding area. They serve all residents, businesses, and visitors.

The department has achieved an I.S.O. rating of 4 from the Insurance Service Office.

They conduct Fire Prevention and Safety Programs annually in local schools and upon request from businesses and civic groups. These programs cover fire prevention, escape strategies, and fire extinguishing techniques.

The Fire Department operates as a combination department, with one full-time Fire Chief and 37 paid-per-call firefighters. The Fire Chief manages daily operations and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Paid-per-call firefighters are alerted via pagers for incidents and receive $15.00 per call and $15.00 per training session, regardless of duration. They respond around the clock, year-round.

The department operates out of two engine houses:


  • Engine House #1: Built in 1983 at 1350 North Illinois Street, replacing the original engine house attached to the original Village Hall.

  • Engine House #2: Built in 2005 at 144 Huntwood Rd to accommodate the village's north, east, and west expansions. The Fire Chief's office is located here.
