On October 15, 2000, the Swansea Fire Department conducted a Memorial Service to honor and remember, our departed brothers. As part of the memorial service, the department dedicated a firefighter memorial at Melvin Price Memorial Park The service and dedication was conducted with true fire department traditions, and included a bell ceremony with family members participating, and bagpipers playing Amazing Grace. The Swansea Fire Department has been fourtunate over the years to never have a line of duty death. The names on our memorial are members who passed away after they retired, or, while an active member. Each year during Fire Prevention Week, a red candle is lit and placed on the memorial to remeber not only our departed Swansea brothers, but all firefighters who have unselfishly answered the call to duty.
