About the Division

The Swansea Police Department Detective Bureau provides a vital role by conducting the requisite follow-up work regarding both felony and misdemeanor criminal cases.  Swansea Detectives review preliminary reports completed by the patrol division, interview witnesses, interrogate suspects, process crime scenes, apply for search warrants, apply for subpoenas, testify before a grand jury, apply for criminal warrants with the State’s Attorney’s Office, and address the potential for property seizures.

Our detectives have taken a multitude of continuing education courses in order to fine tune their skills. Some of the courses taken by detectives include homicide investigations, interview/interrogation courses, investigation of criminal sexual assault cases, and major case complex homicide.

The Swansea Police Department Detective Bureau is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations initiated by the Patrol Section and maintaining a case load of self-initiated complaints.
